Traveller's Assistance

Travellers assistance refers to a product/service that is required when travelling. Your professional travel agent is most equipped with the information and resources you need to assist you in your travels. To find a reputable travel agent in your area visit our Travel Directory.

If you have already booked your travel and are looking for more information we hope this section will provide you with resources you can access to ensure your safety and confidence when travelling abroad.

Types of travel assistance programs include:

  • Retail: Many assistance companies sell in partnership with insurers or direct to consumers.
  • Credit cards: Some credit cards offer travel assistance.
  • Travel industry programs: Ticket agents and tour operators will sometimes attach travel assistance to their products.
  • Corporate: Large-scale employers sometimes work directly with assistance companies to have their own customized plans.

Consumer Protection Funds

Consumer Protection Fund (Fund) compensates consumers who suffer a financial loss as a result of fraud, breach of trust, or a failure to disburse or account for money held in trust by an industry professional. Depending on where you reside in Canada the Fund may be paid into by industry professionals or consumers based on the type of travel they purchase or sell.

We recomend when you travel that book with a local ACTA Travel Agent to make sure you are working with the most reputable travel professionals in the Country. Should any problems arise before, during or after your trip an ACTA Travel Agent has your back.

If your issue is with one of our members, we suggest you discuss the matter directly with the travel agent and where required the manager/owner of the agency before taking any additional action.

If you do not receive satisfaction from the involved agency, supplier or other company, you can take your complaint to ACTA, under the conditions found in our Consumer Complaints section, or to other affiliated organizations depending on where you live or where your travel originated.
